  • Description

This is the eleventh edition of my Piemonte Report. I published the first edition in the Autumn of 2015 in booklet form. I printed 1000 copies, posted them to some of my faithful matthewjukes.com members, and gave them to all of the Piemontese wineries who were kind enough to send me samples to taste in the autumn of the previous year. In essence, it was to show them that I am incredibly serious about learning about and reporting on the wines from this legendary region – a region that I think of as the last great wine region in the world. Subsequent Reports have all been published in digital form and are available to download from my website.

This is because it has become an enormous body of work. As every year passes, I add another layer of notes to this Report and release them as an ever-growing vertical tasting of the finest estates in Barolo and Barbaresco. This 2025 Report results from exhaustive tastings in London and Piemonte between 2014 and 2025.

News Update – Like last year, I have decided to cull a host of older notes from estates whose wines have failed to improve throughout my series of Reports. I see no point in listing wines that have scored badly, meaning I have deleted a couple of hundred wines. It is essential to highlight the fact that the deletions are in the hundreds. These are wines with scores lower than 15.5/20 (or a Bronze Medal equivalent). I cannot imagine my members wanting to buy wines of this low standard, and this also frees up more room for fresh, new, worthwhile wines. When you scan through vertical listings of wines and see missing entries, please beware. That said, I have kept a few wines, with low scores, that you ought to be aware of, for fear of you being hoodwinked into buying them.

My annual Piemonte Report differs from my four other Reports because these are all vintage Reports on current releases – The Finest Fifty, Burgundy En Primeur, Bordeaux En Primeur and 100 Best Australian Wines. My Piemonte Report is a database of consecutive vintages from the most important estates in the region. All are available exclusively, and free, to Members.

The level of detail, care and sheer hard work that has gone into The Matthew Jukes Piemonte Report 2024 is stunning. It’s not a report. It’s a 447-page book. It covers 10 years of incredible work and dedication, and Matthew’s knowledge shines through every page. His tasting notes are also a joy to read – Matthew wields his words with articulate skill. Perhaps the best Piemonte resource in the English-speaking world, this is a guide for newbies, geeks, connoisseurs, collectors, students and travellers. It is also, I might add, meticulously edited and easily navigable.

Thank you very much for the incredible work that you have done describing the wines of our region.
