Tuesday Wines – Episode 135 – Black Friday at Majestic

For one week only, Wednesday Wines has moved to Tuesday to coincide with Black Friday deals at Majestic that are going live today.  A total of 23 lines are on sale this year, and I have picked out four cracking recommendations for you.

In addition, Majestic has its annual ‘25% off all Fine Wine’ offer running from today until 28th November, and this includes all bottles and magnums of still wine up to 15% abv with a single bottle price from £24.99 to £99.99.

The Black Friday Quartet

Majestic Mix Six Price

2019 Côtes-du-Rhône, Guigal, Southern Rhône, France (£13.99 reduced to £8.99, Majestic)

The most famous CdR of all, the 2019 vintage of this immensely reliable wine is a thriller packed with dark hedgerow fruit and plenty of pepper spice. I cannot think of a more appropriate red wine at nine quid for wintry recipes and festive parties.

2018 Beronia, Crianza, Rioja, Spain (£12.99 reduced to £6.99, Majestic)

This is an insane deal as Beronia Crianza is my favourite budget Rioja of all. Crammed with silky red fruit and a smattering of cinnamon spice, this is an indulgent red and a few shades lighter than the Guigal above. A crowd-pleaser with utterly charming flavours, this ought to be your all-purpose red cheapie for this season’s entertaining. While 2018 Beronia, Reserva, Rioja, Spain (£17.99 reduced to £9.99, Majestic) turns up the intensity and the oak interplay a couple of notches, the result is a main course red with beautiful class and control on the palate. 2018 is a stunning vintage in Rioja, and this wine is as good as any ten-quid Rioja I have ever tasted. Finally, the 2015 Beronia, Gran Reserva, Rioja, Spain (£24.99 reduced to £14.99, Majestic) has carved a tenner off its price and looks incredible in 2015. I find this wine a little oaky normally, but the 2015 is well-judged with a more assertive stance and impressive length. Rioja devotees will fall at its feet!
