2019 Vin de Constance, Constantia, South Africa – a preview

2019 Vin de Constance, Constantia, South Africa

approx £50.00, 500ml bottle (previous vintages were retailed by the likes of, among others – www.laywheeler.com, www.vinissimus.co.ukwww.farrvintners.com, www.bbr.com, www.frw.co.uk, www.biwine.com).

I have written up loads of previous vintages of this stellar wine, and six of them can be found on this website via the search facility (2006, 2008, 2009, 2012, 2017 & 2018). I have typed no fewer than 2000 words about Vin de Constance, and this makes it a more documented wine than any Sauternes or, indeed, Noble One or Mount Horrocks Cordon Cut (two of my other most adored sweeties). Suffice to say that the rules this year are no different than last. No retailers have put their hands up because this 2019 is released on the 1st of September. I have guessed the price, but I am told it would remain constant (pun intended). This is, as always, a vital wine to buy for your cellar because it is insanely precocious while retaining mind-blowing levels of acidity to protect it for decades to come. Flavour-wise, we are on a well-trodden path of glorious wild honey, peach kernel, jasmine, fresh-picked lemons and gleaming white almonds. This is yet another phenomenal sweet wine from one of only a handful of estates on earth that can make wine with their eyes shut and still turn out a riveting beauty. Glorious in every way AND drinking now, track some down next month, drink one bottle, put the rest away, and throw away the key!  19+/20 (Drink now – 2050)
