Domaine Christian Bellang & Fils

2019 Bourgogne Chardonnay, Sous la Velle, Domaine Christian Bellang & Fils

Creamy, herbal and quite forward, there is nothing out of place here and it does its job well.  16.5/20

2019 Meursault, Domaine Christian Bellang & Fils

More robust and structured and, as this is a barrel sample, there is a fair amount of oak and traction here, but this is a very well-made wine and the balance is spot on.  17/20

Les Parcellaires de Saulx

2019 Saint-Aubin Blanc, 1er Cru Sur Gamay, Les Parcellaires de Saulx

This is a little ‘ripe’ and a little lacklustre on the palate and this makes this wine fall a little flat.  15/20

Domaine Sylvain Dussort

2019 Bourgogne Côte d’Or Blanc, Cuvée des Ormes, Domaine Sylvain Dussort

Very extracted and powerful for a BB and rather oaky and hard, too.  This is a personal thing, but don’t buy this wine if you are not a fan of muscular white wines and, equally, if you like structure and weight, you will love it!  16/20

2019 Meursault, Vieilles Vignes, Domaine Sylvain Dussort

Another chunky, fruit-concentrated wine, this style is rather overbearing and not for me, but the wine is certainly impactful.  16/20

2019 Meursault, Le Limozin, Domaine Sylvain Dussort

Like the other two above, this is a hugely impactful and raw style with little polish and finesse and while I am not a fan of this style, there is a lot of action going on in the glass!  16.5/20

Domaine Rémi Jeanniard

2019 Morey-Saint-Denis, Domaine Rémi Jeanniard

Accurate, mineral-soaked, cherry-themed and rather nicely balanced, this is not a muscular Morey, but a jolly nice, genial wine.  17/20

2019 Gevrey-Chambertin, Vieilles Vignes, Domaine Rémi Jeanniard

A little more backward and closed than the Morey, this is an earthier creation with less obvious, generous fruit and it needs a little longer to round out, but it will be an honest wine in due course.  17/20

Domaine Catherine et Claude Maréchal

2019 Bourgogne Aligoté, Domaine Catherine & Claude Maréchal

Simple, clean, slimline and yet very long and rewarding, this is a lovely, classy wine with great balance.  17/20

2019 Savigny-lès-Beaune Blanc, Domaine Catherine & Claude Maréchal

Classic Maréchal with herbal notes interwoven with the mineral spice and citrus tones, this is a fairly powerful white and it has the stuffing to live for a few years, but I would be tempted to catch it earlier rather than later while the energy and acidity is still firm and enticing.  17.5/20

2019 Chorey-lès-Beaune, Domaine Catherine & Claude Maréchal

Very bright and evocative on the nose and with masses of energy and attack, this is a superb Chorey.  Still quite tense and firm on the finish, please be patient because there is a lot of fun to be had here in a few years.  17.5/20

2019 Auxey-Duresses, Domaine Catherine & Claude Maréchal

Delicious and very expressive, this is a lovely, ripe Auxey and it shows off Maréchal’s skill in this village.  High tone and floral, this is a beautifully aromatic Pinot.   17.5/20

Domaine Gaëlle et Jérôme Meunier

2019 Rully Blanc, Domaine Gaëlle et Jérôme Meunier

Nice, bright, clean and resonant, this is a fresh wine without the severe acidity often associated with this appellation and it is forward-drinking, too.  16.5/20

2019 Mercurey Blanc, 1er Cru, Domaine Gaëlle et Jérôme Meunier

Accurate, tense and mineral on the palate, I like this wine and it is clean and bright without too much fat and oiliness on the mid-palate and this is refreshing in this vintage.  The finish is citrusy and uplifting and this makes it all very pleasurable indeed.  17.5/20

2019 Mercurey Rouge, 1er Cru, Domaine Gaëlle et Jérôme Meunier

This is a nice, juicy wine with a medium-weight palate and an accurate red cherry nose.  Nice and ripe, with a smooth finish, this is a forward wine and one which looks nicely balanced already. 17/20

Domaine André Moingeon & Fils

2019 Saint-Aubin, 1er Cru Les Frionnes, Domaine André Moingeon & Fils

Quite firm and oaky on the nose and rather square and unyielding on the palate, this is a wine which makes itself heard and it certainly rewards with a lot of action.  Not a ‘fine wine’ but an opinionated and rewarding creation.  17/20

2019 Chassagne-Montrachet Blanc, Domaine André Moingeon & Fils

Classy and controlled, this is a very tidy wine with all of the required elements in place and in addition to this, there is a long finish and great precision. I am impressed.  17.5/20

Domaine Henri & Gilles Remoriquet

2019 Bourgogne-Hautes Côtes de Nuits Rouge, Domaine Henri & Gilles Remoriquet

A little rustic and dry, but certainly ripe and not too tense, this is a decent wine but it lacks flair.  15.5/20

2019 Nuits-Saint-Georges, Les Allots, Domaine Remoriquet

Perfumed and also very accurate for this lieu-dit, this is a rather intriguing wine with wildflower notes and a long, even finish.  Dry and firm, the tannins here are neatly arranged and they will propel this wine forwards for a decade or more.  17.5/20

Domaine Réné Cacheux

2019 Chambolle-Musigny, Domaine Réné Cacheux

This is a bold Chambolle with a dense flavour and while it is a touch atypical, there is a lot of depth here and a slight over-ripe feel which is not unpleasant!  It will age slowly and provide rather flamboyant drinking!  17/20

2019 Vosne-Romanée, Domaine Réné Cacheux

Dark, spicy, earthy and deep this is an impressive wine for a village level and I very much like the fruit tone which is plummy and black-cherry-soaked.  There are quite frisky tannins here, too, which will keep this wine fit and tidy for a good decade!  18/20

Domaine Billard Père et Fils

2019 Saint-Romain, La Combe Bazin, Domaine Billard Père et Fils

Slightly oxidised and the colour doesn’t look fresh either, I have not scored this wine.

2019 Saint-Aubin, 1er Cru Vignes Moingeon, Domaine Billard Père et Fils

This is a slightly old-fashioned wine with some creaminess and a little touch of old oak and this makes it less energetic and enjoyable on the palate.  The shape, size and length is all correct, but I would like a slightly brighter feel throughout.  15.5/20

2019 Auxey-Duresses, Domaine Billard Père et Fils

Oddly pale and rather confected this is a difficult wine to enjoy.  15/20

Domaine Réyane & Pascal Bouley

2019 Bourgogne Côte d’Or Pinot Noir, Domaine Réyane & Pascal Bouley

Rather wild and a little too dry, this is a wine with plenty of life ahead of it, but it looks a little coarse and introverted now.  Hard to assess, I would not be surprised if it comes good, but for now, I am being cautious with my score.  15.5/20

2019 Volnay, Domaine Réyane & Pascal Bouley

There is more flair and impact here and this has all of the makings of a fine Volnay.  Not too big, nor too oaky, there is plenty of fruit here and tart tannins, too, and this should harmonise nicely in five or six years.  17/20

2019 Volnay 1er Cru Robardelle, Domaine Réyane & Pascal Bouley

With more obvious fruit than the village wine, this is a nice step up, but I have yet to see the prices, so only trade up if this looks like it is a fair increase.  17.5/20

Domaine Olivier Guyot

2019 Marsannay, La Montagne, Domaine Olivier Guyot

Rather agricultural and lean, this is a bit hollow and a little disappointing.  15/20

2019 Gevrey-Chambertin, En Champs, Domaine Olivier Guyot

Sadly, knowing this vineyard well and also a few examples of sublime wines made in this vintage, this is another let-down.  15/20
