100 BEST AUSTRALIAN WINES REPORT 2018/19
The Fifteenth Edition
Launch at Australian House 30th May 2018
The 15th edition of Matthew Jukes’ 100 Best Australian Wines was launched today at 16.00 at Australia House, Strand, London. Excitement ahead of the unveiling of the line-up was high as this is the hottest Australian wine tasting ticket of the year. See this piece in The Buyer published yesterday http://www.the-buyer.net/people/matthew-jukes-celebrates-15-years-of-his-100-best-australian-wine-reports/
Over 300 hand-picked members of the international wine trade including key press, buyers, educators and winemakers attended the tasting – this is the largest number of attendees since 100 Best began.
In attendance, High Commissioner The Hon George Brandis QC and Agent General for South Australia Bill Muirhead AM joined the throng.
This Report is available to download as a digital document on matthewjukes.com with click-throughs to all retail stockists. This upgrade in communication was launched in 2016 and the response from the public has been overwhelming.
“I am thrilled to reach the 15 year anniversary of 100 Best and I could not have done it without Australia’s tremendous wineries supporting me. I have pushed the boat out this year with bottle after bottle of epic, world-class wine. I will enjoy every minute of the next twelve month telling the world about these wines.”
“It is also exciting to announce that all of the UK Roadshow dates and venues are already in place for the coming year including a remarkable event in Messums Wiltshire where I will host a tasting in the medieval tithe Barn alongside renowned ‘Field of Light’ artist Bruce Monro, whose ground-breaking instillation at Uluru attracted world acclaim. In addition, I will be taking 100 Best back to China with two events in Beijing and Guangzhou in November as well as an event in October in Adelaide.”
The 100 Best Australian Wines initiative continues to evolve at an incredible pace. The Roadshow tastings, over the last twelve months, hosting twelve sell-out events co-hosted by a hand-picked collection of inspirational, independent wine merchants and international corporate companies. Attendance numbers were, once again, up on previous years. The two specialist sommelier/restaurateur events – one in Edinburgh and one in London – were both amazing with records numbers of elite wine-specialist staff attending. A firm fixture on the sommelier circuit, these intricately planned and executed tastings/lunches are paying off with more and more fine Australian wine listings being registered on all styles of wine list across the country. This cornerstone of 100 Best is vital and feedback back from UK Agents, whose wines have been featured in these events, is extremely encouraging.

THE 100 BEST CRITERIA
It goes without saying that every wine listed in 100 Best has won its place by gaining immense scores in Matthew’s notes and it has been confirmed by the UK agents that they all have sufficient stock to warrant a listing. As always, these are the only criteria for inclusion.
