The inaugural launch of Rathfinny’s first sparkling wines

2014 Rathfinny, Blanc de Blancs Brut, Sussex, England

100% Chardonnay | 12.5% alc. | 5600 bottles | 36 months ageing on lees | Disgorged in February 2018 | 4gms dosage

This is the first Sussex Sparkling Wine, under the brand new ‘appellation’.  A beautiful wine (thank goodness after waiting so long!) with a smooth, creamy palate and an approachable, silky finish.  Fresh and classy on the nose with white flower notes and a touch of brioche, there is a completely relaxed air throughout the experience.  The flavour is exactly what we were waiting for and it is drinking now so, unlike other sparkling wine launches where you know you have to put the wine away for a further year or more, you can crack on with this wine!  18/20 Drink now – 2022

2015 Rathfinny, Rosé Brut, Sussex, England

50% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay, 10% Pinot Meunier | 12.5% alc. | 5100 bottles | the colour comes from a red wine addition made from Pinot Précoce | 2.5gms dosage

Tangy and racy on the palate following the wild strawberry nose, this is a fresh and racy rosé with a touch of spice redolent of a walk down a country lane, laden with hedgerow fruit. The balance is spot on with some crunchy traction on the palate giving it bite.  This is a very successful rosé which will drink early, but last well, too. 18/20 Drink now – 2024

The next wines released will be a 2015 Blancs de Noirs (released early next year) with a 2016 Rosé and in 2020 there will be the full suite of sparklers including a Blanc de Blancs, Blanc de Noirs, Rosé and Classic Cuvée.
