Five incredible party wines for the Jubilee Bank Holiday Weekend – all under £7!

Daily Mail | June 2, 2012

Here are five of the best, inexpensive party wines on the shelves today – and they’re all under £7.00!

2011 Taste the Difference Verdicchio Classico dei Castelli di Jesi, Marche, Italy (£6.99, Sainsbury’s).  This youthful, sprightly, bone dry Verdicchio is a stunning summer party white on account of its crowd-pleasing zesty, floral flavours and keen, lip-smacking finish.  A perfect all-day white with brilliant seafood-matching skills, too, this is a delicious Italian wine.

2011 Taste the Difference Chilean Merlot (£6.99, Sainsbury’s).  Not many clues in the name of this wine, so here’s a juicy bit of information to help you out.  This brilliant value plum and blackberry-drenched red is made by the team at Erràzuriz (a start Chilean estate) and it has masses of style and bravado on board.

2010 Romio, Sangiovese Superiore, Romagna, Italy (£5.99, reduced to £4.49 until tomorrow, Morrisons).  With fresh red cherry notes and a twist of spice and herbs in the delightful aroma this cheeky Italian red is a cracking all-rounder and it’s perfect for combining with buffet-style grazing, street party food.  It is a total bargain, but hurry to take advantage of this deal.

2007 Marqués de la Concordia, Crianza, Rioja, Spain (£10.99 reduced to £6.99, if you buy 2 bottles, until 16 July, Majestic).  This is a bold, daring, statesmanlike red wine with masses of class and impact on the palate.  Bigger, darker and richer than many reds make sure that you drink it with dishes like this week’s Roast beef and jersey royal salad.  This is a stunning deal, too, so if you like big reds look no further.

2011 Torres Viña Sol Rosé, Catalonia, Spain (£5.98, Asda).  With crunchy cherry and tangy cranberry nuances running all the way from the nose to the finish, this is a spectacular, dry, refreshing rosé and I can think of nothing better on a summer’s day than a big glass of this scrummy wine with a Coronation chicken pie!
