2010 Mâcon-Prissé, Le Clos, Domaine des Valanges, Burgundy, France (£12.50, minimum order 12 bottles, free delivery UK mainland for orders over £200, Folly Cottage Wines, tel. 01264 730857 & www.follycottagewines.co.uk). Ace wine buyer Philip Bailey has decamped to the country and from his base in The Chutes he sniffs out thoroughly delicious and terrific value wines for us all to savour. I have no less than eight unmissable wines that I would love to cram into this column, but some will have to wait, so I will focus on two stunning and seasonal white Burgundies and an awesome Champs this week! This lusciously balanced, creamy Mâcon is a delight. Loaded with keen acidity on the finish it is one of the most beautiful and accurate incarnations of the Chardonnay grape I have tasted in months – I will bathe in this wine this summer. Off-set this silky temptress with 2010 Petit-Chablis, Domaine J-P & B Droin (£15.50) and you have a contrastingly, thrilling, mineral and lime juice-imbued beauty to keep you on your toes. These are two sides of the awesome Chardonnay grape in epic form. Also, if you are in need of a great value Champagne load up with NV Marie Demets (£22.50). I reckon that this Pinot Noir-rich model is the best value fizz in the country.
